& how do we learn financial literacy?

There is a lot to remember - and a lot going on in today's financial world

Years ago, companies set up their employee's pensions for them. Employees only had to get the job, collect the paycheck and retire from the pension they earned throughout their years of working. Their cost of living was lower (housing, food, insurance, transportation, entertainment), and the options for entertainment and luxuries were fewer (streaming services, computers/laptops/smartphones).

Now, the story is quite different.

On average, the younger generations will change jobs 3 times throughout their career. I believe I am on my 4th since graduating from my undergrad, and I am only in my mid-thirties. The cost of living has increased disproportionally to salaries and we have a plethora of ways to spend our money outside of the necessities.

We need a new way to look at financial literacy.

girl creating a budget

This is the part where I tell you it truly is not easy to manage your money in this era.

However, that means it is even more essential that you begin trying to manage it better.

It is not impossible, not even a little

You are young; yay! That means you have plenty of time to make mistakes and figure out what works for saving for retirement, reading a credit report, making a budget and sticking to it, investing and enjoying your life. Here comes the gross 'but'; you need to start now. You do not need to have it all figured out right now; pick away at these things, and you will get there. :)

You are capable - You are worth it!

Times are different now than they ever have been, we are thrust into a much different financial world than our parents. Maybe we are not financially illiterate; maybe we just have to play the game by different rules than those who are trying to teach us theirs.
